I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that a lot of our business contacts are “part-time” consultants. They are typically hired to work on one project or another and they are asked to work their full time schedule, which means they aren’t available for the same amount of time. They are often, however, paid by the hour or a fixed salary, which can be a big source of stress.
This is the primary reason why I don’t recommend that business-in-residence meetings be done by “regular” employees. I think the time is far better spent discussing the business and business goals with a trusted advisor or consultant. And because business-in-residence meetings can be very stressful, the best thing to do is try to schedule them well in advance.
In business-in-residence meetings, the conversation is often focused on a business’s goals and the goals of the people involved in the meeting. It is very important that you focus on the goals of the person(s) who are attending the meeting. Not everyone attends meetings, so it is very important to set forth the goals of the meeting in advance. For example, a meeting I attended in March was about a company’s goals.
I have been to many meetings where the goal was to talk about a financial plan. It was very stressful for me. In this case the goal was to find out about the companys financial situation, so I spent a very long time trying to figure out how the meeting was going to go. Of course it ended up being a disaster and I was not happy that I spent so much time on the topic.
If you can’t figure out the goals for a meeting before the meeting, then it’s probably not going to go well. In my case, I had to figure out an agenda that was way too long. If I had known what to talk about at the beginning, it would have been much easier to plan the rest of the meeting.
Its just that I’ve worked in business for a long time so I know how time consuming it can be to plan a meeting. And I’ve worked in financial management for about 10 years so I knew what to expect. But I have to admit I was way to tired to even find out where the meeting was going to be held.
I’m not sure that anyone really has a “plan” for a meeting. They just have a bunch of stuff that they have to deal with, and that stuff is always different each time. The meeting always needs to be a new and different process, and the agenda has to be different every time. Because in business I feel like I’m always running into an issue.
I think it’s important to be able to get together regularly and talk about the current state of our business. Everyone needs to understand what’s going on with their company and how they’re doing it. It’s helpful for everyone for everyone to agree about the current state of things, and then to work together to make things better.
The key is to stay focused and keep talking about things. If we don’t, it’s easy to start looking at everyone as a bunch of drones who have no connection to the companies they work for. But it’s also easy if we just keep talking to each other about how we’re doing it, and how we’re going to fix it. And in that way, we’re making progress.
A lot of our company work is to talk to people, and to build relationships. That’s how we get things done. And thats how we make progress. The problem is, we often focus on the things we can do for ourselves, rather than things we need to do for someone else. That means that our company’s success will be affected if we focus on tasks we need to do for ourselves rather than tasks we need to do for our company.
