Many people think of off-the-grid design as something that is only for the wealthy, but I just don’t buy that. It’s about living life to the fullest and living it in a way that you can truly create a more sustainable lifestyle. This is the type of life that I want to live. I think this is what the average person thinks of off-the-grid living.
The whole off-the-grid concept and the idea of living without running water, electricity, and natural light are just two of the many things that make off-the-grid design, the way that we like to think of it, so compelling.
This isn’t just about off-the-grid living, but a lifestyle that is as sustainable as possible. There are other factors that go into this, but they’re irrelevant to the point of this discussion. I’m talking about the lifestyle of the average person, and I’m not talking about the average person living in a house with an off-grid system.
As one of the most common things that most people say when asked how they’re going to go green, I think it’s safe to say that most people are going to end up with a solar system. So what if you don’t have one? There are plenty of houses that are 100% solar, so you can’t really go wrong.
Well, that’s not to say that the average person can’t design an off-grid home. But to expect a person to design for a solar system without a grid connection is like saying a person can’t design a house that is 100% off grid without a house. And that’s not really a fair comparison.
If you are going to design for off-grid, you have to design for all of your needs. You have to think about insulation, thermal mass, water/solar, and power. You can’t just put in a solar panel and think, “okay, I’m off grid”. You have to design to a standard that you can actually live with. The average house designed for off-grid has around 15k solar panels on average.
In the case of off-grid houses, there are two main factors. First, the whole house is designed to be off grid. And secondly, the house is designed to have certain features that allow for off-grid living. I have lived a lot in off-grid communities and have found that the basic concepts are very similar. For instance, my off-grid neighbors have solar panels, a wood stove, and a fridge/freezer.
The basic off-grid design looks like this: a house on a property surrounded by a fence and a tree. The solar panels are used to power the house, and the wood stove provides heat for the house. The thing is, you can actually build a house that looks that simple. If you build a house at all, you have to consider how it can fit into the landscape of your property. For example, a farmhouse would probably not be a good fit for a farm, but a house at a certain size might fit. If you build it at the right size for the landscape, your whole house can fit into the landscape of your property.
