In today’s business world, the number one priority is to do what is right. This is probably the first thing you learn in business school. If you are in a position to hire a manager, a leader, or a CEO, you should always consider the job description carefully. And if you are a business owner, you should always be trying to do your best in these roles.
In business school it’s tough to do your best in the job description you’ve been given. If you don’t do your best, you’re really off the mark. The truth is that people who were hired in the past have a very different approach to what they’ve been told. The only way to get better in these roles is to hire a competent manager. The manager can’t keep up with the boss if he’s constantly trying to keep the boss from getting better at what he does.
Here is an example of an interview conducted by The Economist. When the interviewer asked about the most important attribute needed to succeed in the position the candidate was interviewing for, the candidate basically said, “I think I have it.” The interviewer then asked, “What does that mean? How do you know this?” to which the candidate replied, “Because I’m actually doing all of my best work on this job.
I really like this one because the interviewer said, How do you know you have it. I like it because it shows just how hard it is to be told you have it, and then still manage to get it back the next time you start a job for the company.
“How do you know you have it” is an interesting one because it seems like the candidate is trying to show that he’s not trying to convince the interviewer that he has it, he’s just trying to show that he realizes the interviewer has it, and then he manages to get it back.
I love this. Here is a guy applying to be a salesperson for a huge company. He is supposed to pick out 3-4 salesmen for the company based on the way they look at stuff, and then they are supposed to get the job. The interviewer is saying, “well, that depends on you, of course.
Yes, and here is a guy who does that. He is applying for a job in a big company. He is supposed to select the 5 most valuable employees for the company based on how they look at stuff, and then get the job. The interviewer is saying, well, it depends on how you look at things, obviously.
It all starts with an interesting question. How do you really look at things? This question is asked by a company that has just hired a CEO.
But, you see, it’s a hard question to answer.
The interviewer does the best he can in order to find the best answer to this question. We are giving a company the benefit of the doubt by assuming that, at least, he is trying to be fair. He is also, of course, a company that is trying to hire the best for its employees.
